AUXILIARY FIRE FIGHTING UNIT

[To the Editor] Sir,—At the present time there are | many citizens in Nelson who are not sure as to what activity they could be of most assistance to, in the present emergency precautions organisations that are being set up. As one who is vitally concerned in the building up of a large and efficient auxiliary fire fighting unit. I should like to appeal to at least forty men in I this town who would be prepared to come along and train in all branches of Fire Brigade work for one night a week for three months and at least once a month thereafter for the duration of the war. The work i : most interesting and one that will hold its interest to all who join. One point I wish to make clear is, j that there has been formed the Emergency Reserve Corps which has been i divided into three main groups (a) i The Home Guard; (b) the Emergency Precautions Corps and (c) the Women’s Auxiliary. No person can belong to more than one group and therefore no member of the Emergency Precautions may belong to the Home Guard or vice versa. The men I am making this appeal to, are those who are not attached to any other section or group, but wan 4 to do something that will be of assistance to their country and fellow citizens in time of need. I shall be very pleased to give any information to men. interested in joining and in the daytime a ring to ’phone 1215 or in the evening i ‘phone 975. will find me. ! In conclusion I should like to say j that all who join do not have to be • physically perfect but any reasonable j standard of fitness will be sufficient. I do say. however, that if you wish to I help, hand in your name to me at once ! and do not put it off till next week. [Trusting that this ,pr al will not fall jon deaf ears.—l am etc. F. V. POWELL. j (Convenor of the Fire Section of the Emergency Precautions Corps.) Nelson, 10th December.
