FATAL AIR CRASH
NEW ZEALANDER IN ENGLAND [United Press Association] INVERCARGILL, 10th December. Official advice has been received of the death in an aircraft accident in Britain of Sergeant Pilot J. B. Courtis, son of Mr A. H. Courtis, Invercargill. The advice is contained in a cablegram from the Records Department of the Royal Air Force. It is stated that Sergeant Pilot Courtis was flying a plane which crashed on hills during bad weather. Sergeant Pilot Courtis received his preliminary flying training with the Southland Aero Club, and transferred from the reserve of pilots to the Royal New Zealand Air Force shortly after the outbreak of war. He passed through the Levin and the Taieri training schools and gained his wings at Wigram.
