MAPUA W.D.F.U.
CHRISTMAS PARTY The closing meeting for 1940 of the Mapua-Mahana branch of the W.D.F.U. took the form of a Christmas party, the branch having invited members of other I women’s organisations to be present. Quite a number accepted the invitation and spent a pleasant afternoon together. A short business meeting was held, when arrangements were made for a picnic to be held at Ruby Bay on 9th January, boiling water to be provided. A visit also is promised from Miss Wix, when it is hoped she will give the I branch and friends an account of her accent travels in Britain and on the Continent. The president Mrs Forsyth announced that the whole of the £SOOO at which the Dominion W.D.F.U. had aimed, to provide a fighter plane for the Air j Force, had been raised. Mrs Scott of Ruby Bay. on behalf of : members of the branch presented Mrs I Forsyth with a beautiful bouquet of j flowers; and thanked her for all she had done for the branch during the year, j Musical items rendered included pianoforte solos by Mapua’s everj popular pianiste. Mrs Carling; and vocal solos by Mrs M. Wells to her own accompaniment on the steel guitar. These performers received well earned applause. Before tea was served, a stall presided over by Mrs Grainger was well patronised. A play entitled “The Miss Primrose's Deception” was read by Mesdames G. Fraser. L. Stringer. A.. H. and M. Wells. This proved amusing and was very well received. The afternoon closed with the singing of the National Anthem and “Auld Lang Syne.”
