POHARA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
VISIT OF FEDERATION PRESIDENT At the monthly meeting of the Pohara Women’s Institute, the president (Mr* McFarlane) presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. The meeting opened with the singing of “God Defend New Zealand” and the Institute Ode and the reading of the Aspiration. The president of the Nelson Federation of Women’s Institutes (Mrs Tweedy), who was warmly welcomed by members, gave a very interesting talk on the activities of the Institute. She expressed pleasure at, and appreciation of. the good work being done by the smaller Institutes such a* I Pohara. In thanking the Federation President for her visit and address. Mrs McFarlane presented Mrs Tweedy with a bouquet made by Mrs Woodward. The motto for the month was “Peace on earth, goodwill towards all men.” The roll call—“three things a husband • should do” —was well responded to. the replies giving a comprehensive if somewhat amusing insight into women’s idea of mere man’s place in the domestic sphere. The postmaster at Takaka (Mr J. Roche) addressed the meeting on the National Savings Movement, appealing for support of the campaign and making appreciative reference to the good response received throughout the Golden i Bay district. It was decided that each member would bring a small gift to the next ; meeting to help the Girl Guides with - their fish pond at the forthcoming combined patriotic gala. 1 During the social hour, two competi- | tions were held. Mesdames Childerhouse. Hart. Dunn and Foreman being (he winners. The “mystery parcel” was won by Mrs Mogridge. Other ! competitions resulted as follows: Christmas noveltv. Mrs McFarlane 1. Mrs ’ Woodward 2; best bloom. Mrs Budd and Mrs Foskett (equal) 1. It being the last meeting until Febru- ; ary, the president of the Takaka Wo- ’ men’s Institute (Mrs J. A. Lockhart) took the opportunity of extending the season’s greetings to all present these being heartily reciprocated. Afternoon tea was served by niem- . bers and a very pleasant meeting was i brought to a close with the singing of ; the National Anthem. WOMEN’S NATIONAL RESERVE The Women's National Reserve will , hold its final meeting for the year at the City Council Chambers to-night at 7 o’clock. All women are cordially invited to attend. A broadcast will be made as usua) • from the Nelson Station 2YN to-mor-row at 7 p.m. It is hoped that all coun- ’ try women will endeavour to listen in.
