CHRISTMAS PARTY

LOYAL HOWARD LODGE The children and wives of members were the guests of the social committee of the Loyal Howard Lodge in the Oddfellows’ Hall which was appropriately decorated for the festive season and the times. There were greenery, streamers, and balloons and flowers on the mantel shelf over the fireplace where Father Christmas was to arrive, whilst on the walls were photographs of the King and Queen, and Royal and other Households’ Coats of Arms. The party opened with competitions. The prizes were good and the children keen. Community singing was the next item, and afterwards chocolate bombs were served. There was some fun with an “electric chair,” and the “penny and funnel” trick. The assembly were welcomed by the deputy chairman who wished everyone a merry Christmas on behalf of the social committee. A message was received that Father Christmas would arrive at any moment. On this being read all eyes were turned toward the fireplace; he duly appeared and spoke to the children who filed past him in alphabetical order and received a small present and.a bag of lollies, and from the secretary of the social committee an envelope containing money. Supper of sandwiches, scones, cakes, soft drinks and tea was enjoyed. Music was in the able hands of Messrs H. Williams, sen., and C. Reynish. “Auld Lang Syne” and “God Save the King” concluded the function.
