SYDNEY HAS A.R.P. TRY-OUT
REALISTIC SCENE IN MARTIN PLACE [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copy right j SYDNEY, 9th December. The first tryout of Sydney's air raid precaution measures was staged in the presence of 5000 interested citizens in Martin Place to-day. Men in gasmasks, bandaged and splinted boy scouts, ambulances. firemen with ladders, smoke, spluttering thermite, a uoisy sirens imparted a touch of realism when a formation of bombing planes swept to and fro at a great height over the scene, which sprang into immediate activity, capturing the imagination of the onlookers and the crowds on the rooftops of the tall city buildings. The demonstration was carried out by the national emergency services led by Colonel Bruxner, who delivered a speech in which he commended the work of the A.R.P. members and urged his hearers to take more seriously the dangers which were threatening the country.
