CLOSING IN FOR ACTION
ENTERPRISEMEETS THE RAIDER SEA BATTLE EXPECTED UNOFFICIAL REPORTS | U P.A-By Electric relegraph-Copyrtght | Received 10th Dec., 1 1.30 a.m. MONTEVIDEO, 9th Dec. Unofficial reports are circulating that His Majesty’s ship Enterprise has closed in with the German raider and is ready for battle. It was previously reported that the Carnavon Castle officers had received word from the Enterprise that she had sighted and was overtaking the raider. ODDS ON THE BRITISH SHIP | British Otiicial Wireless | (Received 10th December, 10.15 a.m.) RUGBY. 9th December. Official naval circles in London have , nothing to say on reports that the | British cruiser Enterprise is in conI tact with the German commerce raider i which escaped from the auxiliary ! cruiser Carnavon Castle. This is not | surprising as if any British warship has I had the good luck to get on the track i of the raider so soon after its recent escape a period of silence would be expected before she would make any signal. The Enterprise has a speed of 33 knots and carries seven 6-inch guns so that the German ship, if she has fallen into the way of this cruiser, is not likely to be able to evade action, nor is its result in much doubt.
