CHANCE FOR FRANCE TO RE-ENTER WAR
APPEAL BY DE GAULLE [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyright] LONDON, Bth December. In a broadcast, General de Gaulle declared that recent events had provided an opportunity for the French to re-enter the war and so share in final victory. Action by the French fleet and by French armies in North Africa and Syria might turn the Italian defeat into a rout and so gain for France great triumph in the Mediterranean.
In spite of defeat by Germany, France was still alive, he said. True France would reject all idea of cooperation with Germany. He concluded with a stirring appeal to the armed forces of France. “Comrades in arms,” he said, “stand up and unite with Free Frenchmen, who are your vanguard. Let us march together along the path of honour and duty.”
