Y.M.C.A. BEAT OLD BOYS
WALKERS FINE BOWLING PERFORMANCE Continuing their match commenced six weeks ago and twice interfered with by rain, Old Boys took up their innings of four for 58 on a soft wicket with the field again extremely slow. R. Newman and Clark, the not outs, carried on confidently and reached 88 but then the side collapsed once more and were all out for 103. Walker, who had taken two wickets on the first day, took the whole six wickets which fell, and finished with the very fine figures of eight for 32 off 12 overs. Forty-nine in the lead on the first innings Y.M.C.A. commenced their second innings at 3.20 but at 4 p.m. had scored only about 12 the batting being dreadfully slow. Later with six down for 41 and two men short there were probabilities of a keen fight for an outright finish but Taylor altered the complexion of things with a forceful 44 not out including a number of fours and when the inings ended at 99 only 30 minutes’ batting time remained and stumps were drawn. Stevens secured six for 36, following five for 31 last Saturday. The umpires were Messrs Satherley and A. Haycock. Scores: —
