MOTUEKA’S NEW POST OFFICE
TENDERS TO BE CALLED EARLY IN NEW YEAR ANNOUNCEMENT BY POST-MASTER-GENERAL Early in the New Year tenders will be called by the Government for the erection of a new Post Office at Motueka to replace the building which was destroyed by fire over two years ago. An announcement to that effect was made by the Hon. P. C. Webb, Postmaster-General, when speaking at the Motueka A. & P. Show on Saturday afternoon.
In welcoming the Minister, Mr D. Llewellin, president of the A. & P. Association made reference to the need of a new Post Office in the borough. The Minister said that he had promised Mr C. F. Skinner, M.P., that he would keep an eye on the proposed new Post Office. He had pleasure in announcing that the plans and specifications for the new building were now ready and that tenders for its erection would be called early in the New Year. When the Government came into office, plans were made for 100 new post offices to be built, but unfortunately the war had prevented the work being carried out as so much iron was required for reinforcement work. He agreed with the people of Motueka that the town was in real need of a Post Office, and the building proposed would be a credit to Motueka when completed.
