CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE CHRISTMAS SOCIAL EVENING A splendid attendance of members and friends came to the Catholic Wo- )- men’s League’s final function for the ?s year. The Christmas social evening 55 was held at St. Mary's Hall, Manuka r. street. The committee had arranged a i- delightful and varied programme, and n provided a very happy evening's en- •- tertainment. T Following on the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem, Mrs T. Mce Bride, vice-president, very fittingly ex- !• pressed the thanks and deep appreciae tion of members in regard to their pree sident, Mrs C. J. Du Flou, and presented her with bouquets of choice roses, one on behalf of all the rtem- -• bers. and the other from the Circle M members. Mrs Du Flou suitably rek plied. A bouquet of red roses was also given to the secretary, Mrs W. J. e - Welch, whose enthusiasm and help all appreciated, said Mrs T. Mcßride. lS Two choral items, “Snow” and “Fly high little singing bird,” were rendered e by the members of the musical circle. S Occasion was taken to present their d leader, Mrs T. Robinson, and the accompanist, Miss Frank, with suitable - gifts from circle members. The Rev. Father Seymour, S.M., ad- '• dressed the gathering, expressing his y appreciation of the work of the Cathoy lie Women’s League. He wished meme bers continued success in their activities d and concluded by wishing both meme bers and friends a holy and a happy '• Christmas. He then addressed special d words to the next-of-kin of men on ac- • tive service, especially mothers and s wives, and presented to those present B boxed gifts which the League had pre- ■ pared for them in kindly remembrance and tribute d With violin accompaniment Christ--1 mas carols were then sung from the d “Project Salon” in group singing. Here s the theme was of Christmas, and both 5 picture and project depicted Bethlehem • and the coming of the Saviour to the d world. Mesdames T. Robinson and Murdoch 7 then gave a very effectiv# pianoforte • duet, two Nell Gwynne dances. The tap 3 duo of Misses Tunnicliffe and Lock was 1 delightfully rendered. Competitions results were: “Auto--5 graphs” was won by Mrs Sannazzaro 1 and “Choice Selections” by Miss Marion 1 Moore. They received suitable gifts in 1 these popular events. Miss P. Murphy • delighted all inner happy rendering of Gounod’s “Ave Maria.” Mrs Wilson ac--1 companying and Mr R. Wilson provid--1 ing a violin obligato. In the interlude 1 that followed queues lined up to receive 1 paper hats and decorations from the two Christmas trees that made such a 1 bright decoration in the hall. Then followed the waltz, Mr G. Walker being M.C.. and Mr C. Reynish at the piano. The committee members were evening hostesses: ’ Mesdames Du Flou, McBride, Lucie-Smith, C. T. Webley, Cussens. T. Murphy and Welch and Miss G Day. They dispensed a delectable supper of home-made cakes. Mesdames Scott, Parker and Fielding had charge of the stall for ices, sweets and goods. Community singing and dances completed the evening’s programme. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and “God Save the King” brought the night’s entertainment to a delightful close on this the final evening of the Nelson season for the Catholic Women’s League.
