TAKAKA DISTRICT ORGANISES
HOME GUARD UNITS FORMED Over 50 members of the Home Guard drawn from the Takaka Town area attended the second parade held in the Star Garage on Thursday evening. Guardsman C. Stobie, commanding officer for the Takaka district, was in charge of the parade. During the evening, the preliminary work of drafting the men into sections of ten under section leaders and seconds in command was completed. Five sections were formed and leaders and seconds appointed as follows: — Headquarters Section : Leader. Guardsman A. E. Aylward, second, Guardsman ’ J. P. Cottier. No. 2 Section: Leader. Guardsman J. A Lockhart; second, Guardsman R. M. Kirk. f No. 3 Section: Leader* Guardsman J. Cashman; second. Guardsman R. J. Papps. No 4 Section : Leader. Guardsman H. Mogridge; second, Guardsman A. R. Cozens. No. 5 Section : Leader. Guardsman J. Davies; second. Guardsman G. Hambrook A short period of instruction followed the drafting of the sections, after which seven new recruits, who will form the nucleus of a sixth section, were enrolled and duly attested ! Weekly parades are to be held. Com- | manding Officer Stobie told a 'Mail” j reporter that he was very pleased with the response and the way in which the men were turning out to parades. “Trere will be plenty to do to keep them interested in the future.” he said. “Next Thursday we will be able to seitle down to work in real earnest.” Th > commanding officer' also intimated that the next parade would be held in the open air. in order to instruct the me \ in exercises on the march. COUNTRY UNITS In addition to the town unit, country units have been formed during the past week At Mutupipi, sufficient members enLO led to permit the formation of two sections as follows: —No. 1 Section: : Leader.
