COAL STOCKS HIGH
BRITAIN WELL PLACED FOR WINTER [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyright] LONDON, sth December. T'.yi “Daily Telegraph” says that despite three months of intensive air raids, also attacks on coastal shipping and the difficulties of transport as a result of the black-out, Britain’s stocks of coal are 30 per cent., or 9,000,000 tons higher than those at the same time last year. Indeed, they are the largest ever.
Expei’ts are of the opinion that the acute shortage of last winter will be avoided. Measures being carried out include the construction of special unloading sidings round London, also the provision of 500 Government dumps throughout the country, holding 5.000,000 tons. There are 180 dumps in London.
