PACER AND TROTTER

SPECIAL RACE ARRANGED CHRISTCHURCH. sth December. The Timaru Trotting Club has arranged a special race for three-year-old trotters and pacers on its programme for January, and it has completed negotiations for the appearance of Certissimus. the sensational young trotter, and Special Force, the outstanding juvenile pacer to this stage of the season. in this event. It is probable that the contest will •centre on these two, but it is expected that other three-year-olds, including Gold Chief, Peter’s Find. Walter Moore, Shadow Maid. Ronald Logan and Statuette, will be invited to start, the club reserving the right to select the starters. This race will carry a stake of £4OO and will be run over a mile and a-half. Certissimus has revealed himself as an outstanding trotter of great possibilities. He has won four races and in his last start he registered 3.20 1-5, a record for a three-year-old trotter and the fastest time of the season for any trotter or pacer of that age. Certissimus was timed to run his last mile at Forbury Park in approximately 2.9 from post and post, and private watches made him run one quarter on the outside of the field at better than a twon.inute speed. He accomplished his task in the easiest possible fashion, and. apart from a tendency to pace oh tin mark, he is a

perfect racing machine. Special Force won the Juvenile Stakes last season, also the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, and this season he has maintained his form, having won the Wellington Stakes very easily from a field which included the best of the ycung pacers with the exception of Peter’s Find. Special Force has given every indi- | cation of being a colt with outstanding j prospects, although his best time over ; a mile and a-half is 3.26 1-5. Gold Chief, winner of the New Zea- j land Trotting Derby in 3.22 3-5, is a i handsome and improving colt.
