CHRISTMAS FARE
IMPORTED DELICACIES SOME NOT AVAILABLE | [United Press Association] AUCKLAND, This Day. Some of the usual Christmas table I delicacies will be absent this year. Many classes which it was possible to import-by free exchange funds, however. are still in the stores and will last for the Christmas season. The usual supplies of Turkish figs will be lacking, their absence being due to war conditions rather than to import control, which affects the general situation of groceries. Importers state it is uncertain whether fresh supplies of dates will arive in time. There will be no Spanish or Californian muscatels, but there will be Australian stocks. Continental delicacies such as crystallised fruits will be off the menu, but there will be substitutes for cherries. There will be no English-made Christmas puddings, but plenty of local production, and there are ample supplies of fruits for home-made puddings. Almonds and nuts will be very scarce.
