HITLER IN RAILWAY TUNNEL
HOW HE SLEEPS IN FRANCE AWAY FROM BRITISH BOMBS The latest elaborate precautions taken by Hitler—a declared “military objective”—against being bombed by the R.A.F. and against assassination, as detailed by a French journalist were mentioned from Daventry radio last night. The Fuhrer, it was declared, lives more than ever in terror of a violent death. When he visits France, which he has done more often than is officially announced, he always travels in an armoured train, and hundreds of his personal bodyguard go two days ahead to look out for would-be assassins Hitler does not trust any French hotels, and his agents have to choose for him the longest and strongest railway tunnel they can find. The heavily-armoured train, symbol of the love and trust between dictator and his people, is shunted into the tunnel and there—“in the twilight of the Gods”—Hitler goes to sleep.
