ENORMOUS TOTAL
WAR SAVINGS IN BRITAIN [U.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph-Copyright) LONDON, 2nd December. The chairman of the National Savings Campaign revealed at Newcastle to-day that war savings had now reached the enormous total of £480,I 000,000, and including investments in the post office, a total of £486.000,000. This result he described as a magnificent start on the part of the small savers, but he called for still greater . effort. HARDER LIVING AHEAD ; LONDON. 2nd December. . The Minister of Food. Lord Wool ton. ’ speaking at Manchester, announced : that his Christmas present to the people ' of Britain would be a postponement of cutting down the meat ration.
