j 7th BIRTHDAY PARTY The November meeting of the ; Tahunanui Women’s Institute was held ■ in the Town Hall. The meeting took I the form of a Birthday Party to celei brate the seventh anniversary of the j branch. The president, Mrs Brett, exI tended a welcome to all present and the | ' National Anthem was sung. A most' ! enjoyable entertainment programme j ! was presented, the following giving i i terns: Pianoforte solos. Mrs Jordan; j j songs, Mrs C. L. Topliss; ’cello solos, j i Mrs Allen, with piano accompaniment I played by Miss Greenwood; play, Mes- J | dames Brett. Leighs, Ashton and Bald- i i win: piano and concertina items, Mrs E. j ! Smith: recitations. Miss K. Mears; tap j ' dance. Margaret Leighs. A charming posy in the shape of the W.I. Emblem was presented to the president. Mrs Brett, by Mrs Bird on behalf of the members. Shoulder sprays were presented to the following:—Mrs Topliss (secretary), Mrs Spencer (treasurer), Mrs Harper (assistant secretary), Mrs Heath (leader of the Playreading Circle). Mrs Colligan (Arts and Crafts), Mrs Lake (competition officer), and Mrs Jordan (pianist). Mrs Winstanley was presented with Mrs Brett’s prize for the most points gained during the year for the best flower competition. The prize for the most points in all handicrafts displays was won by Mrs Colligan. Afternoon tea was served and a number of articles made by disabled soldiers were sold. Many messages conveying birthday greetings were received from a number of branches of the institute and from the Mayoress (Mrs G. L. Page). A competition for a dinner set (to raise funds for patriotic purposes), was j won by Miss J. Ingram.
