NELSON JERSEY CATTLE BREEDERS
OAKS COMPETITION | An attraction at the forthcoming A. and P. Association’s Show which is creating considerable interest amongst breeders and the farming community in general, will be the judging of the Jersey Oaks Competition instituted by the Nelson Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Club. Although many Oaks Competitions are held in the main dairying districts of the North Island this is the first to be held in the South Island and the fact that 33 nominations were received from the Nelson, Marlborough and Murchison districts shows that breeders appreciate the enterprise of the Nelson Club in providing an opportunity to compete in an Oaks Competition. The competitors will be judged on type and production, 50 points being for type and 50 for production, and as many of the twelve finalists have almost equal points for j. oduction a very keen class is assured in the final judging for type.
Nomination and acceptance fees together with £65 as a subsidy from the N.Z. Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association and the Nelson Jersey Club have made available the sum of £l2O to be distributed as prize money which will be presented by the club president Mr W. D. Dron, immediately after the j .ldging which is scheduled to commence about 10.15 a.m. on Friday, 22nd November. Competitors are fortunate that the A. and P. Association has secured as judge the services of Mr B. Moreland, of Cambridge, who ir, recognised as one of the foremost jei'sey judges in New Zealand.
