ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

MOTUEKA DIVISION ANNUAL INSPECTION The annual inspection of work and ambulance properties of the Motueka Division of the St. John Ambulance was carried out in the Horticultural Hall by District Superintendent Ashton, Dr. J. J. Crawshaw, and District Officer Eyles of Nelson. Sixty-two members paraded for the march past at the War Memorial, where the salute was taken by the visiting officers. The Motueka Boys’ Band, under the conductorship of Mr Gerald Green, was in attendance. In addition to first aid and stretcher work by the men, the members of the Ladies’ Nursing Division gave a demonstration of the Kelly stretcher, which contains splints and bandages, available for use at a minute’s notice. The stretcher was designed and made by Mr D. Kelly, a member of the Motueka Division. After the inspection presentation of warrants and First Aid certificates took place at the Presbyterian Church Hall. District Superintendent Ashton said the work of the division he had seen that evening was quite up to standard; the triangular bandaging and stretcher work (military) was excellent. PRESENTATION OF WARRANTS In presenting Divisional Superintendent J. T. Brough and Ambulance Officer T. Simpson with their respective warrants, Superintendent Ashton offered his congratulations and remarked that much depended on these two men. Mr Brough had been the backbone of the division, and he had received much help from Mr Simpson, who was n capable man. FIRST AID AND HOME NURSING COMPETITIONS District Officer Eyles stated that the First Aid and Home Nursing competitions had this year been extended to include Motueka and Blenheim. There were nine competitions with various events, a number of which were for the men. The members of the B.M.A. had donated a miniature shield and the Rotary Club had given a cup for First Aid. He asked the ladies' division to send over at least two teams for the competition, which will take place in Nelson on 14th November. A medal had been donated for the St. John member, in the men’s division, gaining most points in Home Nursing, First Aid and improvising. Saperintendent Eyles expressed himself very pleased with the R.A.M.C. stretcher work of the Motueka Division. PRESENTATION OF FIRST AID CERTIFICATES Dr. Crawshaw, who presented the First Aid certificates, said he had been favourably impressed with the bandaging and injury treatment he had seen that evening. Certificates were presented to the following:—Margaret Scott, lima Turney, Mavis Monahan, Audrey Douglas, Joan Douglas, Leslie Hufton, Edna Kelly, John D. Grubb, Jack W.
