A message from Wollongong states that a general strike at the Port Kembla steelworks is threatened by the night shift workers as a result of the management's refusal to discuss their claims for a 40-hour week, a 20 per cent wage increase and double
l time for Sunday work. The strike polt icy has yet to be endorsed by the day l shift workers. : The Commonwealth coal strike so . far is not causing much inconvenience ■ j as most of the shipping companies and L gasworks have fairly large reserves, * but every means is being taken to eco- [ nomise.
