LONDON TUBES
MODERNISATION SCHEME (British Official Wireless] (Received 29tli January. 10.15 a.m.) RUGBY. 27th January. In spite of the great calls due to the war made on the Southern railway, the modernisation of Waterloo city railway, which is the original "twopenny tube,'* has been rapidly proceeded with and now approaches completion. The change-over to the new system is expected to take place early in the summer and passengers will find entirely new idling stock constructed on modern principles designed to give the maximum comfort. The journey will be much queiter, as the rails have been welded together—a method found to be much quieter, as the rails have been speedy exit from this much-used railway will be assured by means of a triple escalator which has been installed.
