DANZIG DISPUTE
M. DALADIER’S SUGGESTIONS SETTLEMENT BY NEGOTIATION NOT ACCEPTED BY HITLER U.P.A.— By Electric Telegraph— Copyright] (Received 28th August, 12.45 p.m.) LONDON, 27th August. The Paris correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says that a report from the Prime Minister’s office announced Herr Hitler’s refusal to accept M Daladier’s suggestion that Germany and Poland directly negotiate over the Danzig settlement. It declared that Herr Hitler informed M. Coulondre of it on the afternoon of 26th August. Herr Hitler declared lie could not tolerate the existing situation and reminded him that he deplored German and French blood should be spilt following the measures he might have to take in order to settle the situation. M. Daladier added that he himself guaranteed Poland’s dispositions for mutual recourse to methods of free conciliation, and affirmed that no man of feeling could understand that war could break out without, at least a new, direct attempt at a peaceful arrangement between Germany and Poland.
