GERMAN STEAMER

LEAVES DUNEDIN WITHOUT CARGO [United Press Association] DUNEDIN. 26th August. The German steamer Erlangen sailed to-day for New York, after discharge of general cargo and crude oil. The Erlangen, which is of 6101 tons, loaded skins and wool for New York, and was scheduled to sail to-day. The vessel was delayed through insurance covers not being made available for the consignments of skins for a British company, resulting in the principals here deciding not to let the shipment go forward. Thus the cargo was unloaded and the vessel sailed for Port Kembla to bunker with about 1700 tons of coal. Thence she will proceed to New Caledonia for ore and then on to New York. Rumours that the vessel had taken aboard crude oil were denied by the agents.
