MRS EDITH PATTIE

The death occurred last week at her son’s residence at Pukehina, Bay of Plenty, of Mrs Edith Pattie, aged 74 years, relict of Mr David Pattie, who pre-deceased her four months ago. Deceased had been in failing health for the past six months, but up to the end was bright and happy. The funeral, which was largely attended by residents of all parts of the district, took place at the Awakaponga Cemetery, the Rev. Mr Horwell conducting the sendee at the graveside. Born at Hartley, Gloucester, in 1865, she, with her brothers, came to New Zealand in 1884. In 1890 she married Mr David Pattie, of Riwaka. Later Mr and Mrs Pattu moved to Rangitikei and carried on farming there until 1910. when they settled in Matata, Bay of Plenty, residing there ever since. A great church worker, she and her husband were responsible for having the Presbyterian Church established at Matata. Until quite recently Mrs Pattie took a very keen interest in horticulture and was a prominent prize winner in Rangitikei and the Bay of Plenty. There are three children living, three sons having predeceased her—including Robert, who was killed • in Palestine, and Reginald. M.M. and Bar, who died of war effects seven years ago. The surviving family are John (Pukehina), Clifford (Reporoa) and Rita (Matata). Wide sympathy with the bereaved family is extended by a large circle ol friends.
