OBITUARY

MRS HENRIETTA EVERY Airs Henrietta Every, whose death occurred at her residence Alton street Nelson on Monday last was one of the few giirviv. ing pioneers. She was born in London and came to New Zealand with her parents the Rev and AJ rs. Chas. Jeffreys by the sailing sliip Maori which left England in September 1851 on her maiden voyage Mrs Every had her 9th birthday on board and arrived in Nelson on Christmas Day in the same yeay. The Maori later left for Dunedin whfere she arrived in March 1852. The late Mrs Mules of this city was her playmate on board. Her early years were spent at St. Clair, Dunedin, with her 6 brothers and sisters. She married the late Frederick Every of Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin, and spent most of her married life in Oamaru. Mrs Every was left a widow in 1892 with a family of 5 sons and 4 daughters. She, paid a visit to tho Old Country and Canada in 1908 returning to New Zealand 3 years later and came to Nelson to settle in June 1922. Gifted with a striking mentality and remarkable memory, to the end she retained keen interest in world affairs and was ever ready to talk of the early days of the pioneer. Her outstanding characteristic was a sincere Christian faith and clear insight into spiritual things, consequent upon her close study of the bible of which she was ever a valued and interesting teacher. Mrs Every is survived by 4 sons and 4 daughters, her youngest son having predeceased her in June last.
