MAN AND WOMAN KILLED

HEAD-ON COLLISION SEVEN OTHERS INJURED l tinned Press Association) AUCKLAND, Uth June. A man and a woman were killed and seven other people were injured when a light motor van and a heavy motorcar met in a head-on collision on the Great North Road outside Waikumete Cemetery this afternoon. Five of tho injured are members of one family. The victims are: — KILLED An unidentified woman. Mr J. K. Caldwell, aged 65, married, an agent, Kohimarama road, died on arrival at the Auckland Hospital. INJURED Frank Herbert Hildreth, agad 47, salesman, Kohimarama road, concussion, facial injuries, possible internal injuries and shock; condition serious. Norman Jordan, aged 80, single, nurseryman, Sandringham, concussion, lacerated scalp; condition fairly serious. Mrs Hilda Nancarrow, aged 46, New Lynn, lacerated knee. Thomas Nancarrow, aged 6, head injuries. Sidney Nancarrow, aged 7, injury to jaw. Miss Hilda Nancarrow, aged 18. shock and abrasions. Frank Nancarrow, aged 52, abrasions. The impact was so severe that the bodywork of the van flew to pieces end scattered in sections on both sides of the road. A woman, hurled from the seat, fell between the two vehicles and was killed instantly. Two men in the van were also flung from their places. Mr Caldwell was so severely injured that he died immediately after being taken to hospital. All the other injured were occupant# of the larger vehicle. Though not thrown to the road, they were tossed round inside the car.
