P. PARKES WINS FIRST RACE OF SEASON NELSON TO WAKEFIELD The Nelson Amateur Cycling Club opened its road racing season on Saturday with a short event of 17$ miles from Nelson to Wakefield. The winner was P. Parkes, who started off the scratch mark and covered the distance in 55 minutes 23 seconds. There was a south-westerly wind which made the race a hard one all the way, and Parkes’s performance in winning from scratch was a good one. J. Burn, also a scratch rider, was a close second, and his performance was also a splendid one. Among the twelve starters were a number of new members who enjoyed the race and showed promise of being valuable members of the club, The result was:— P. Parkes, scr , 1 J. Burn, scr 2 D. Mead, 2min 3 Times: 55min 23sec, 55min 25sec, 57 min* 27sec.
