NATIONAL DAIRY CONFERENCE I

LIVELY TOPICS TO BE CONSIDERED j QUESTION OF PRODUCTION COSTS lUtiiled Press Association! WELLINGTON, 10th Junes. ! The National Dairy Association Con- j ference opens on 28th June at Wellington. Among the lively topics to be con- j sidered are the costs of production, i mainly labour, and the guaranteed 1 prices for butter and cheese. A remit regarding costs will draw the Government’s attention to their serious effect on the industry. In regard to the guaranteed prices a motion will be: “That the price for 1939-40 be the price recommended by the Advisory Committee for the season 1938-39, viz., 15.603 pence per lb. for butter, plus all known added costs.” A Cambridge remit also asks what 1 action the dairy companies propose to | take should the Government not accede to the above resolution. A Maungaturoto motion will strongly oppose any suggestion of a change in the personnel of the Advisory Committee. An assurance by the Government is proposed to be sought and obtained it possible, that the increased production arising out of the improved efficiency of I the dairy farmer will result in a cor- j responding increase in the farmers’ in- | come.
