MAPUA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

INITIAL MEETING A well attended gathering of women recently listened at Mapua to an interest* ing and very full account of the organise, tiou and work of the Women's Institutes, given by Mrs Twedie, a visitor from Motueka. In an interval, afternoon tea was served, and at the elo6e it was decided to proceed with the formation of an institute at Mapua To this end a further meeting was called, at which Mrs Chsytor, of Wakefield, was present as district organiser, and she was accompanied by Mrs Fenn, also of Wakefield, and Mrs Smith, District, Federation secretary from the Hope-Ranzuti Institute. Mrs ISveedie also again attended from Motueka. After a formal resolution being passed deciding to form an institute, the meeting proceeded to elect officers, the results being as follows:—President, Mrs Ross; secretary, Mrs Wakefield; treasurer, Mrs Price, and committee, Mesdames Clark, Fletcher, J. C'outts, Boyd, Thomas, and Dormer; some members of the committee who were not present being elected subject to their consent. It was decided to ask Mr J. R. Clark to act as auditor.
