NELSON PROVINCIAL SCOTTISH SOCIETY

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The executive meeting of the Nelson Scottish Society was held in Toe H rooms with Chief F. H. Sharland in the chair. The following committee members were present: Chieftains N. Brownlie, N. Henderson and G. Jamieson, Councillors J. Prior, J. Fingland and W. ShandSmith, and secretary Haywood Councillor Shand-Smith received a very hearty welcome back to the executive of the society and made a very witty and pleasing speech in reply. Councillor J. Fingland asked for and was granted a two months leave of absence as he is leaving Nelson temporarily. Four new members were elected and the treasurer’s report showed the funds of the society to be making satisfac- ! tory ...progress. Arrangements were made for an Ingleside to be held in the Fire Brigade Hall on 17th June when a varied programme of Scottish music, song and : dancing will be presented. Chieftain N. Henderson will be M.C. and Mr Clarire Lee will provide music for old time and modern dancing.

SUCCESSFUL DANCE Very successful was the dance held in celebration of the King’s Birthday under the auspices of the Scottish Society. This gay function took place in the School of Dancing. Chieftain N. Henderson acting as M.C. The presence of the Nelson Pipe Band and of Mr Clarrie Lee’s Orchestra assured dancers of excellent accompaniment to the various old time and modern dances. Prizewinners were as follows:—Spotlight. Miss Drummend and Mr Wright; Monte Carlo. Miss Margaret Ross and Mr J. Livick; cake competition, Mrs Lindsay Ross. The supper arrangements were in the hands of Mrs N. Henderson and her committee and a delicious supper was served. Chief F. H. Sharland thanked the large number of patrons for their attendance. and hoped to have the pleasure of welcoming them all again at the Society's next Ingleside. The singing of Auld Lang Syne brought a delightful evening to a close.
