WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

HUIA DEFEAT REWA The large number of spectators who were attracted to Pioneer Park to see the match between Rewa, last year’s champions, and Huia, were not disappointed with the standard of hockey. Right from the initial bully both teams kept at it, and each team was called on tc defend. Rewa attacked and found M. Lynch and E. Lynch hard to pass. Huia forwards attacked strongly. F. Anderson, D. Fry and E. Crackett showing up well. Sparks in goal foi Rewa was playing well, and saved her side on numerous occasions. The first spell ended with no score. On resuming Huia attacked, and E. Crackett scored. G. Drummond, centrehalf for Rewa, was playing a great defensive game, and sent her forwards sway, but off-side play spoilt a good movement. Huia came back and a nice passing rush between F. Anderson, D. Fry and E. Crackett enabled the lastnamed to score. Rewa were trying hard to make up leeway, M. Sparks. P. Staples and D. Stapp showing out. but Huia’s backs were able to hold Rewa out. Huia came up field and E. Crackett again netted, and at the final v histle Rewa were attacking. Final score: Huia 3 (scored by E. Crackett), Rewa 0. The umpires were Messrs A. Wells and H. Bourne-Webb.
