INDOOR BOWLING

WEEKLY TOURNAMENT The weekly indoor bowling tournament was continued last evening, a full complement of ten rinks. taking part. Several players were unable to get a game, and there was a fair attendance of spectators. Three short games were played, the rinks skipped by G. Piper and V. Vitetta being undefeated. In the play-off the issue was in doubt until the last bowl was bowled, after which Vitetta emerged the victor by one shot. The other members of the winning rink were F. Perrone, J. Vitetta, and M. Lauria. A feature of the evening’s play was the performance of junior rink skipped by Logan, which registered two wins, defeating rinks skipped by Martyn and Hunter. This rink is improving every week, and may soon cause senior rinks some concern.

In the tournament played on Saturday afternoon, rinks skipped by Masefield and Perrone qualified for the final, the latter winning the play off. The green is playing well, and as most of the players have now overcome the difficulties of the period of transition from outside to inside conditions, the standard of play has considerably improved. As the more prominent skips are attending regularly, there is likely to be some keenly contested match'fes in the near future. It is understood two well-known skips have their rinks ready for a special challenge match which is to take place at an early date.

A visitor to the green last evening was Mr J. Lawrie, of Wellington, who skipped one of the rinks.
