UNORTHODOX METHODS

ITo The Ed i tori Sir.—At long last an organisation has seen fit to make comment on the unorthodox manner in which our country is being governed. I am greatly impressed with the manner in which the Rasp Club has taken up this no-confi-dence business, or as Mr Roberts puts it. “In the event of there being a deadlock.” If such an unconstitutional resolution has been passed by Labour caucus it should give cause for the closest scrutiny of all caucus resolutions to ascertain whether or not they contain anything that will intrude upon Democracy and individual rights. As is suggested by the Rasp Club, in what better manner can our Government lay claim to confidence than by going to the country for a decision? Mr Savage has repeatedly told us that we have nothing to fear, and that his party is there in the interests of the working man : and in the interests of humanity. Why then. Sir, the suggestion that in the event of a deadlock Mr Savage and the Labour Party Executive may confer, and the decision arrived at be binding? It leads me to suggest that Mr Savage , realises that his ideals may be great, but that his method of attainment is wrong, and that rather than go to the electors for a decision he is prepared to take a party one. Further to my suggestion that we should be wary of the truth and prac- 1 ticability of anything in the way of : promises, reminds me that nothing de- ; finite and concrete has arisen from this < Social Security scheme. We have all i to pay our shillings, but shall not be a < i party to the benefits. The B.M.A. has - ! definitely stated that it will not be a i i party to the scheme, but what is this ‘ j scheme? If what has appeared in the 1 j papers at various times constitutes this * ; S.S.S. I fail to grasp anything rather £ i than mere nothingness. I again appeal | to citizens to be wary and rather than J | accept promises make plain hard facts I an obsession.—l am, etc., LIBERTY, * Tahunanui, 17th April. t
