' I SEASON CLOSES ON SATURDAY RESULT OF TILYARD CUP At a meeting of the committee of the Maitai Bowling Club held last evening it was decided that the official closing day take place on Saturday next and 1 that an invitation be extended to all ‘ clubs in the district to be represented. 1 A proposal that a group photograph be taken prior to the commencement of play was adopted and it was decided to request all members of the Club to be present on the green at 1.45 p.m. A motion congratulating Mr F. Perrone cm winning the senior singles, and Messrs G. Piper (s>. A. Stringer, W. Watson, and B Lcggatt on winning the rinks in the Nelson Centre cham- | pionship. was passed for recording in the minutes. A further effort is to be made to send a team to Blenheim to play * against the Returned Soldiers’ Club, and Saturday, 29th April, was suggestI cd as a suitable date | The Green Committee reported on j the proposals for the treatment of the green during the closed season and reI commended that the work be commenc|ed next week The proposals were agreed to *• The Club competitions are now completed except the first year singles. Last evening Kenning beat Amodeo by one shot on the last head, thus reaching t the final. Pettit and Nichols have yet to play for the right to play Kenning in the final. The final games for the Tilyard Cup l (handicap singles) were played on Saturday afternoon last. D. Johnson played three games, defeating Mac Lean and La Frentz. but went down to j Perrone in the final by one shot after leading all the way. On the last head Johnson was two up on the board, but Perrone drew three shots and with his last two bowls Johnson endeavoured to remove two shot bowls or ditch kitty bv driving, but missed narrowly on both occasions. The finish was close and exciting, and was witnessed by a full gallery of interested spectators.
