William Joseph O’Leary, formerly director of the Riverview Observatory. and a leading authority on earthquakes, is dead. He collapsed and died while playing golf yesterday at Rydc. He was 70 years old. MRS D. C. LAMB LONDON, 16th April. Mis D. C. Lamb, w-ife of the Salvation Army Commissioner, is dead. She was 75 years of age. Mrs D. C. Lamb married Commissioner Lamb in 1888 He vras than head of the intelligence office of the Salvation Army and for many years he was in charge of the Army’s migration office, where his wife assisted him. REN ACT I United I'reM Association) CHRISTCHURCH, 16th April A unique family association with ships and the sea has been broken by the death in London on Saturday of Captain Charles Malcolm Renaut. formerly of Christchurch. It was an association that comprehended the best part of * century, three generations of sea captains, and the change from sail to steam, and. indeed, from steam to motor power. Captain Rcnaut’s grandfather. Captain William Renaut. brought to Otago ir 1848 the Blundell, the third immigrant ship to arrive there and the first to be entered in the Customs records in Port Chalmers. His father. Captain C. H. Renaut. was famous as captain of the clipper ship Crusader, which made record passages from New Zealand to England, and also of the Plcione and other ships of the Shaw SaviU's early fleet. Captain C. M. Renaut. who was 69 years of age. first served with his father i' mailing ships, later transferred to steam, and for many years commanded Union Company's vessels. He was appointed surveyor of ships in Ihe Marine Department. Auckland, in 1911. and was transferred to Lyttelton in 1923. being appointed superintendent o f mercantile marine there in 1929. He retired in May. 1935 Captain Renaut went to England early last year. He and Mrs Renaut. formerly Miss Isabella Ormiston, Dunedin, Intended returning to New' Zetland in November next.
