GOOD DISPLAY LAST EVENING f A display of the Aurora Australis was seen from all parts of the Nelson province last evening. The phenomenon \ made its appearance in the southern j sky at 7.55 p.m. this display first appearing in the form of a glow similar i I to that caused by a busli fire. The colour deepened gradually and at its maxi- ’ mum intensity the aurora attained a t crimson colour broken by long pointers 1 of pale pink. The illumination moved from the south-east to the south-west and gradually faded away, leaving a normal sky by about 8.20 p.m. The display is said to be caused by - particles from the sun being attracted ? to the polar regions by magnetic ray*. / When there is a display in the South- - ern Hemisphere a similar phenomenon - is seen in the Northern Hemisphere j - about 12 hours later.
