MOTUEKA
AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION SHOW DATES [From Our Own Correspondent] Thirty members attended the meeting of the Motueka A. and P. Association, held in the secretary’s office on Saturday evening, when Mr L. Canton presided. Messrs S. Beatson, H. A. Holdaway and E. Ross were nominated and elected members of the Association. CORRESPONDENCE
The secretary, Marlborough A. and P. Association, writing in reply to Motueka’s circular letter, regarding a proposed conference of the Rai Valley, Marlborough, Golden Bay and Nelson Associations to fix show dates for the northern end of the South Island, intimated that the matter had been dealt with at a meeting of the committee.
The writer stated that the Marlborough Show was a two days fixture and the Association had a good many viewpoints to consider, when fixing their show dates. In the first place many of their leading shvep exhibitors wished to enter at the Christchurch Show, and in fixing their dates they had to consider the matter of judges and to avoid clashing with the Timaru, Wairarapa and East Coast shows. It was mentioned that show dates in November or December would not suit Marlborough at all, owing to shearing and haymaking operations. The committee, therefore, had decided that they must select their show dates at the meeting, held on 30th March. Members could not see how they could help in the matter by attending a conference, say at Nelson.
The secretary, Mr O. C. Wilkinson, averred that so far no replies had been received from the Takaka or the Nelson Association in respect to their views on the question of show dates.
