A motion of sympathy with Mr H Coltman. District Health Inspector, in the tragic death of his son was passed to-day by the Nelson Education Board. The chairman (the Hon W. H. McIntyre). said Mr Coltman was closely associated with school matters, and he wished to express the sympathy of the board with him and his family in the death of Mr Arthur Coltman in such unfortunate circumstances

Mr P. O. Murray, a well-known and popular figure at the Nelson Railway Station has retired after twenty-five years service, and his unfailing courtesy will be remembered by many. Mr Murray, who was a cold store engineer, came to Nelson 38 years ago from Liverpool and took up the management of the Nelson Cold Store and Freezing Works at Port Nelson. In those days fish w’ere much more plentiful than now and Mr Murray remembers receiving 2J tons of fish, including a ton of flounders in one day and it was not uncommon to receive up to 800 dozen snapper, morning after morning Mr Murray will carry the good wishes of many in his retirement. In his earlier days Mr Murray was a keen walker (of athletic build) and on many a holiday he was to be seen swinging along with easy gait many a mile from Nelson Even in these days he finds a country walk a pleasant opting and when refusing “lifts" from considerate motorists is often amused by the look of surprise when he returns thanks and explains he is “walking to Nelson."
