PACIFIC DEFENCE CONFERENCE
BRIEF OFFICIAL STATEMENT | At the conference convened by the New Zealand Government to discuss ’ Pacific affairs with particular reference : to defence, the following official state-, ment was issued at the conclusion of yesterday's conference proceedings late j ir the afterrnoon:— “The conference was opened by his I Excellency the Governor-General at 10 ! a.m. Subsequently thd Rt. Hon. the i Prime Minister was appointed chair- ! man, and the Hon. P. Fraser deputy- I chairman. Mr Savage welcomed the delegates, and speeches in reply were I made by Sir Harry Batterbee and by | Vice-Admiral Sir Ragnar Colvin, the | leaders of the United Kingdom and j Australian delegations respectively. The conference then proceeded to con- j sideration of its agenda. Discussion will J be resumed to-morrow .r.orning.”
