OUTLYING ISLANDS

VISIT BY GOVERNOR-GENERAL It is announced that the visit of the Governor-General to the Pacific Islands, which was postponed last year on account of an outbreak of rubella in several of the Islands, will be commenced from Auckland on the 6th July. The Governor-General will be accompanied on the tour by Viscountess Galway and attended by two Aides-de-Camp. Their Excellencies will travel in H.M.S. Achilles which, in the course of her autumn cruising programme, will visit the Pacific Islands at this particular time. The last visit by a Governor-General to the outlying territories administered by the New Zealand Government was made by Lord Bledesloe in 1933, when, for reasons of economy, it was deemed necessary to exclude several of the Islands in the Cook Group which it had been customary for His Majesty's Representative to visit in the past. The Governor-General will appoint the Chief Justice of New Zealand to be his Deputy during his temporary absence from the Dominion.
