LOCAL COMMITTEES
NELSON BODY HAS FIRST MEETING The local committees for the north- j ern part of the South Island to work under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act passed some time ago have now been set up by the Minister of Internal Affairs. It will be remembered that the act provided for the setting up of a National Council which has been in existence for some time and com-' prises representatives from all over the | Dominion. Incidentally it is interesting to note that Nelson College Old Boys occupy three seats out of the 12 on the Council (Dr. T. H. Pettit of Auckland. Mr W. H. Moyes of New Plymouth and Mr C. F. Schadick of Westport). The local committees are set up to investigate and report on the matters affecting their own districts and to carry out such work as is authorised by the controlling body and the Minister and also to do all in their power to further the objects of the Act locally. The Nelson Committee has had its first meeting and is engaged at present in a survey of the existing facilities in this area on lines laid down by the Minister. At the first meeting it was intimated that the Mayor of Nelson (Mr G. L. Page) had been appointed chairman by the Minister and the meeting appointed Mr E. R. Neale to be secretary of the new body. It is hoped that as the committees get under way and the Dominion survey is completed and reported to the National Council, the public and interested bodies will co-operate in furthering the work. It will be of interest meantime to know the committees set up in the various parts of the district. They have now been constituted as follows: Nelson City Area: Messrs G. T,. Page (chairman). E. R.
