JAPANESE AND COLOUR-LINE
EXPERIENCE IN SUVA HAPPY TO BE IN NEW ZEALAND AUCKLAND, This Day. A victim in Suva of an experience with the apparent "colour-line” a young Japanese businessman, Mr T. Ikawa, on a holiday tour, expressed on arrival by the Matua his happiness at being among New Zealanders. When he attended a picture theatre and asked for one of the more expensive seats he was told they were all occupied and was placed in a cheaper part of the theatre among Fijians and Indians, but when he looked at the seats where he wanted to go he saw a number vacant. After visiting the swimming baths twice and cooling off in the heat he was requested not to use the baths again. Mr Ikawa said he was not worrying about the incidents but was glad to be in New Zealand. He said that despite the war with China business in Japan was proceeding smoothly. Japan had no designs on Australia or New Zealand. “When people tell me' that.” he said. "I tell them it is not true. It is only dream."
