UNITED STATES MINISTER HANDFUL OF MEN THREATENING WORLD PEACE (Received 14th April. 130 p.m.) WASHINGTON. 13th April
The Under-Secretary of State. Mr Sumner Welles, speaking at the University of Virginia, declared: “A handful of men are threatening the peaoe of the world. Tt is urgent for the United States to sell Ihe materials needed to prevent the conquest of peace-loving nations.”
Mr Welles used words of unusual bluntncss for an American diplomat Without naming any nation or leader he vigorously criticised the doctrines of persecution and tyranny practised by totalitarian and issued a caution that they were fpreading rapidly by conquest and by violence.
