MEETING CONCLUDES TO-MORROW

NELSON TROTTING CLUB GOOD DAY’S SPORT ANTICIPATED FIRST EVENT AT NOON

The Nelson Trotting Club’s annual! c meeting will be concluded at Richmond j Park to-morrow when there will be 1 well-balanced fields which offer a good i day’s sport. The first event will take i place at noon, threequarters of an hour earlier than on Saturday and there are . eight races on the programme. The track is in excellent order and a continuation of the fine weather conditions will ensure a large Anniversary Day attendance. The single pool totalisator will be in j operation. The chief event of the day will be the , President’s Handicap, of two miles, J which promises to be a closely contested, spectacular race. The trophy for i that race is a Crompton pumice boiler, j presented to the club by Messrs Crompton’s Ltd., of Dunedin, through their f local agent, Mr V. Cox. This is the , second year that the firm has provided , the trophy and the boiler will be on view on the course. A silver mounted whip, donated by Mrs C. C. Thomson, of Upper Moutere, will be presented to the driver of the winner of the Moutere Handicap. , It was a coincider.,* on Saturday that at the closing of the totalisator for the seventh race the total investments for the day was exactly the same to the penny, £6295, as for the first seven races on the first day last year. However the club was unfortunate in not having the figure well above that total as the pay-out on the fifth race was held up for two races. The form of likely improvers is reviewed elsewhere in this issue. “Cuddle’s” selections of those expected to perform well to-morrow are as follows: — Golc>:n Bay Handicap, of one and a half miles.—Worthy Merit, Bon Haven. Native Leaf. Waimea Handicap, of one and a quarter miles.—Misdeal, Cavatina bracket. Appleby Handicap, of one and a half miles. —Carageen, Silk King, Tristan. President’s Handicap, of two miles. | Aqua Bond, Logan Palm, C. Chan. Tasman Handicap, of two miles.— Worthy Merit, Sylan bracket, Bon Haven.
