WILL NOT BE PRESENTED
BECAUSE PEERESES RECEIVED CASH DRASTIC CHANGE IN COURT PROCEDURE ibv Air Ala.l—Own Correspondent! LONDON, 31st December. No fewer than 58 would-be debutantes, it is estimated, will not be presented at Court this season because their parents have paid cash, anything up to £3,000, to peeresses who would have introduced them. Many peeresses whom circumstances have forced to accept money from people who wish to see their daughters presented will have their applications refused. While sympathising with the peeresses, the Court regards the exploitation of Royalty for private gain as most undesirable, and thorough inquiry has been made. Now the whole procedure for presentation has been drastically changed. Every application is investigated. The first move to bar girls whose wealth is used to pave the way for presentation was made early this year when the United States Ambassador limited the choice of American debutantes to those living in England. The fact that the King and Queen are visiting Canada in the early spring makes it certain that at least two Courts will be held at Buckingham Palace in either March or April, and the two remaining ones on their return late in the summer.
