Hay Blown Away. “I cut thirty acres of liay this season,” remarked one farmer from the Waipukurau district. “1 think the nearest straw that 1 could find now is in the vicinity of Waipawa,” he added. Similar experiences were shared by many others, a fact which can be substantiated by a glance at many of the paddocks which had been cut only a short time ago and where the hay was drying at the beginning of the week. These paddocks, almost without exception, were barren with the exception of matted sections of haypiled up against the fence lines. Bush-sick Land. Confidence that experiments at present being carried out by his department in connection with the treatment of bush-sick country by cobalt would prove successful and would counter act what has been one of the greatest handicaps of pumice country for years, was expressed by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. W. Lee Martin when speaking at the opening of the Rotorua Summer Show.
