MAORI CHARGED

CONVERSION OF CAR (United Press Association) HASTINGS, This Day. Tureti Paraire Turua, a young Maori, appeared before Mr Miller, S.M., this morning charged with the unlawful conversion of a car on 14th January. Detective Sergeant Revell, asking that bail be substantial, said that another charge was pending. Bail was fixed at £2OO in accused’s own recognisance and another surety of £2OO. The charge was the sequel to the conversion of two cars on Saturday night. Both cars taken were wrecked, the first after colliding with a parked car and the second by being driven into a tree. Bloodstains found in the second car suggested to the police that the driver had been injured and as a result of inquiries the Maori was picked up on the main Napier-Hastings highway yesterday.
