BARCELONA PREPARED
“TO THE LAST MAN AND THE LAST SHOT” (Received 17th January, 10.20 a.m.) BARCELONA, 16th January. The city is seething with patriotic fervour. There is tremendous activity everj'where, and newly mobilised troops parade amid scenes of intense emotion. The city is placarded with slogans, “To the last man and the last shot” and “Catalonia will never be Italian.” A special correspondent who visited the Catalan front says that the bombardments of towns behind the front exceed all he has personally seen in the past two years. Tarragona, Vails and Reus have been savagely bombarded and nearly destroyed. ADVANCE ON ALL SECTORS (Received 17th January, 11.45 a.m.) LERIDA, 16th January. The Aragonese, after forming a junction with the Maestrazgo army at Torrega captured Cervera. General Franco’s troops are advancing on all sectors
