THEFT OF LIBRARY FUNDS
FORMER TREASURER PLEADS GUILTY I United Press Association! AUCKLAND, 16th January. Formerly secretary and treasurer to the Otahuhu Public Library Committee, Louis Adolph Gcros pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court, Otahuhuh, to the theft oi £l4 12s from the funds of the organisation. The police said accused was appointed secretary ar.d treasurer to the committee in October, 1935. and collected subscriptions and paid certain expenses. including rent of the library premises In consequence of information received, accused was interviewed last August, and admitted he had converted moneys to his own use Accused was a married man with six children, and was in employment at w-orks locally earning more than £6 a week He had refunded more than £l3 of the appropriated funds, and was willing to repay the balance Counsel said accused had frankly admitted the offence which had resulted from succumbing to temptation when members of his family were sick Counsel complained the delay in action being taken The magistrate said he w’ould be guided by the probation officer’s recommendation. and accused would be placed on probation for 12 months.
